Handmade Aegina turtle coin pendant from the A. Leondarakis collection in solid sterling silver.

Description

A distinctive Aegina turtle coin pendant from the A. Leondarakis collection with a unique design.

The coin featured on the pendant is a copy of a B.C. 400 silver Greek coin from the island of Aegina. On the front it features a land-tortoise with letters A and I. On the reverse we can see the letters N and I and a dolphin in a 5 part split square. The “turtles” (chelones) of Aegina, along with the “owls” (glaukes) of Athens and the “asses” (poloi) of Corinth, were the international currencies of the antiquity.

The coin is made from solid 925 sterling silver. On its back it discreetly carries the metal fineness stamp and the workshop code ΩΙ34.

The Aegina turtle coin pendant will be sent to you with a natural string for you to wear. It will be placed in a presentation box for you to keep or present as a gift.
